Review of Gender-Related Laws

This programme began in September, 2001 and seeks to review thematic areas identified as gender-related. The first phase involved reviewing the Wills and Inheritance Act (Cap. 10:01) and was completed in December, 2003. The Commission embarked on the second phase of the programme which involved reviewing laws on marriage and divorce. The second phase was completed in December, 2005. The Commission has commenced the third and final phase of the programme which involves the development of a statute to regulate gender equality. It is envisaged that the gender equality statute will, inter alia, provide for cross-cutting matters of gender equality including, but not restricted to, education, political participation and promotion of visibility of women in the public sphere.
